The 1894 is lighter and holds more rounds, but it's also less powerful than the .35rem or 30-30 of a 336.A 1X-4X will be effective at greater distances than the .35 Remington is practical for a shot at game. At the low end, you can find the game animal at 15yds to 20yds in thick cover. At 4X, if you know the drop, you can easily place the shot, (or at least the crosshairs), out to 300yds. Making the shot is shooter dependent.

The one I got today has a fancy dark walnut stock and the forearm almost looks like a dark burl walnut, it has a gold trigger and copper butt plate.My stepson was given a Glenfield model 30A by his grandparents. the rear leaf sight is horrible and we had to remove the elevator completely to get it to shoot. What options for sights are available? Looking for something adjustable but would prefer to keep open/aperture sights. Don't really want to scope it.
